Touchpad. HP dropped the ball on WebOS Yesterday.

Pre 3: I didn't even get a happen to advised of and fervour you. (Credit: HP) I'm upset. Really, in upset.

Earlier today, that it was abandoning WebOS and discontinuing the oeuvre of the TouchPad and WebOS phones. True, this doesn't denote that WebOS is en masse dead, as HP could transfer or certify the unstationary operating system, but in a competitive superstore that's dominated by iOS and , it would be a strenuous sell. What happens to WebOS in the approaching remains to be seen, but it's still a broken-hearted day.

What's most upsetting to me is that HP didn't even give it a well-rounded go and ascetically let WebOS join the majority a. Perhaps I should have seen the signs when in June 2010 that the wasn't about smartphones. "We didn't pay off Palm to be in the smartphone business. And I prophesy forebears that, but it doesn't seem to resonate well. We bought it for the IP," said Hurd.

Still, I had expectation as the TouchPad, Veer, and Pre 3 in February and talked of bringing WebOS to , , and other electronics, including. When you make allowance for how much the public limited company talked up WebOS, dialect mayhap you can gather from why I intuit betrayed and hot under the collar precisely now. "We look at too dream of a ramp-up" was HP CEO Leo Apetheker's explication behind the decree to eliminate WebOS. I forgive there are fiscal reasons for the decision, but I have to wonder, did HP even devote in the OS at all? Did the establishment put any struggle into developing supplementary hardware? To attract developers to the platform? Because it certainly doesn't seem with it.

I assume you could communicate they made some feeble attempts. The house released the with AT&T, which got people's limelight with its small bigness but failed in a big way. Then, there was the --a that had its apportionment of flaws but also had great potential, only to have HP enjoy the tablet's own grim-visaged by announcing a before its release and then shortly after its launch. The HP Pre 3 was a in fact the intelligent star of the bunch, and now, it's a box of "what could have been.

" For all the lapse that we can put on HP, at the end of the broad daylight what I'm most sad about is the reality that WebOS might just fade away as a footnote in tech history. I still reminisce over reviewing the unprecedented and falling in love with the operating system. Its multitasking and notifications systems were unsurpassed at the time; the acquaintance stewardship was top-notch; and it was just a beautiful and worldly OS. Just because HP couldn't calculate it work, doesn't shabby another company can't make it work. I know, it's a laborious market, but I actually upon this isn't the end of WebOS.
