A POWERFUL 6.7-magnitude earthquake rocked the inaccessible Kermadec islands north of New Zealand today, seismologists said. The vibrate struck at 12.53pm (10.53am AEST), 10km south of L'Esperance Rock and 270km southwest of Raoul Island at a sageness of just 10km, the US Geological Survey said.
No tsunami forewarning was in a jiffy issued. Earthquakes and volcanic work are overused in the area, which is separate way of the "Ring of Fire" where the Pacific platter of the earth's crust meets other continental plates. The Kermadec islands, 1000km north of New Zealand, are vacant alone from Raoul, where New Zealand's Department of Conservation maintains a competition station.
