The Kentucky Derby 2011 is almost upon us…four more days until the Run for the Roses, and the react to is - as usual - changing almost daily. Besides the incident that the vehement rains in the territory are making many trainers overlook askance at the wake conditions at Churchill Downs, there’s the aftermost trifling scratches due to injuries and bodily conditions. Toby’s Corner pulled out this morning, for example, due to a breed member injury.
This allowed Derby Kitten to enter the race. As for favorite jockeys, Calvin Borel is prevalent to be aboard Twice the Appeal for trainer Jeff Bonde this year. Surprisingly, Martin Garcia (won the Preakness end year on Lookin At Lucky) is not racing in the Derby.
He is riding Plum Pretty in the Oaks however, making that marathon clearly one I will watch. If Sway Away gets a place in the field, I have heard that Garcia will husband him, but that is still up in the air. No jockey for Derby Kitten has been announced yet.
