If ever a thriller were to excite a collective "eh," it's got to be "The." It's not a fit movie, by any means, but it's also not mephitic enough to have fooling around hating on. Basically, everybody interested seems to be evaluation about what other, on the face of it better, contrive they can strike on to next. Of course, that's assuming guide Christian E. Christiansen and sob sister prolong to turn movies.

Judging from this effort, they don't in seem to punctiliousness much one scheme or another. The same could be said for principal Leighton Meester, whose appealing verge on "" has been oddly blunted for her impersonation as the psychopathic Rebecca. We be acquainted with something's off the beam when Rebecca refuses to faction with the rest of the freshmen during orientation week at the. But her naïve roommate, Sara (Minka Kelly), never seems to remark how remaining Rebecca's behavior is.

Sure, their baby Tracy () right away switches dorms after a upsetting assail in the showers. And yeah, Sara's darling kitten hastily vanishes, never to be seen again. Also, it's a toy strange that the crappy teacher who's been hitting on her () purely disappears one day.

But Christiansen needs to writing-pad the moving picture out to an hour and a half, so on we go, as Sara remains ridiculously unaware to the experience that Rebecca will do anything to be her Very Best Friend. Don't get your hopes up, though: the PG-13 scares are so feeble that we mostly just court Rebecca pouting and plotting. The only veritable combat comes at the very end, and is resolved so neatly we will wondering why the filmmakers bothered in the blue ribbon place. The one feature of captivate is the physical similarity between Kelly and Meester, which initially sets up expectations for some creepy congruence theft.

But that fades early, as it becomes distinctly that there is no special purpose here: no interesting story, no unorthodox visual angle, no vindication for the movie to exist at all, in fact--other than to get teens to punish to see beautiful young stars looking terrific and star-like. And in that regard, "The Roommate" does succeed. Kelly and , who plays Sara's boyfriend, have a confident, easy chemistry, and though she underwhelms here, Meester is always a likable presence.

But you identify what? It's stone-cold out. Movie tickets are expensive. And if you fetch a replica characteristic out of "Gossip Girl"  and "Single White Female," you'll get the same experience--only cheaper, warmer, and a lot more fun.
